Welcome

The advent of the railroad, dating back to the mid 1800s, was one of the major revolutions for mankind in modern history, as it allowed millions of people to move easily, and in safety, reaching distant places in comparatively shorter times. This can also be said for Malta albeit on a smaller scale, which for a period of nearly fifty years, had its own railway system. The Malta Railway prospered until the introduction of the tramway and subsequently that of the buses. The Malta Railway closed down at the end of March 1931. The times are reminiscent of the names of the engine manufacturers, namely Wardle, Hawthorn and Peacock.

Nowadays seventy-seven years from the end of that era on our island, a new concept of train travel is to be introduced with the sole aim of providing an exciting and enthralling touring experience in the village where the Malta Railway used to end its journey from Valletta. The villages of Rabat and Mtarfa together with the old capital and closed city of Mdina provide the perfect ambience, for the rider, due to their historical, cultural and architectural importance.

The approach to this innovation is based on service excellence, on providing a train tour with a difference. With sheer dedication and determination Melita Trains wants the tourist or local to say that the tour was a fascinating experience, travelling in safety and comfort whilst being guided with an informative commentary and at the same time enjoying the ride.

Our main aim is to provide service excellence to our customers.
